If the Pueblo South Colts were riding high off their 85-53 takedown of the Nanakuli Golden Hawks last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Pueblo South fell 74-65 to Green Mountain on Wednesday. Pueblo South was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Green Mountain apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Pueblo South lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maurice Austin. Despite the final result, he scored 44 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Austin scored a full 67.7% of Pueblo South's points, the ninth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Salazar, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Austin Beeson was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with five rebounds for Green Mountain. The match was Beeson's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Jake Swanson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Pueblo South now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Green Mountain, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.
Pueblo South will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Arapahoe at 2:00 p.m. Hopefully Arapahoe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Thursday. As for Green Mountain, they will head out on the road to face off against Golden at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Golden presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Green Mountain in Colorado (Golden is ranked 19th, while Green Mountain is ranked 119th).
