The Davenport Wolves will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Burnet Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Davenport had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 56-21 victory over Lampasas. With Davenport ahead 35-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Davenport got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Triston Hamlin out in front who threw for 363 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt. Hamlin hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. Barrett Fallon was another key contributor, rushing for 129 yards and three touchdowns.
Davenport's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB seven times. The heavy lifting was done by Ryan Howe and Gianni Evans-williams who racked up five sacks between them.
Burnet fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They blew past Canyon Lake 45-20.
Rhett Murray and Grant Jones were among the main playmakers for Burnet as the former threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes and the latter gained 263 total yards and two touchdowns. Jones' longest reception was for an incredible 98 yards. Another player making a difference was Garner Krause, who picked up 131 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Davenport's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Burnet, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Davenport strolled past Burnet when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a score of 42-28. Does Davenport have another victory up their sleeve, or will Burnet turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
