Santa Cruz hasn't had much luck against Monte Vista Christian recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Cardinals will face off against the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Monte Vista Christian took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Santa Cruz, who comes in off a win.
Santa Cruz will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Harbor on Thursday. The Cardinals blew past the Pirates 11-3. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Leah Serna made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Serna was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucia Curley, who went 4-for-5 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amaris Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Monte Vista Christian couldn't beat Soledad on Friday even though they stacked nine runs on them in the third inning. The Mustangs fell just short of the Aztecs by a score of 13-12. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Monte Vista Christian got a massive performance out of Samantha Bertoldi, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Aubrianna Schmidt also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Santa Cruz's record is now 7-10. As for Monte Vista Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 9-13.
Santa Cruz came up short against Monte Vista Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 10-6. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
