Brandon (Miss.) by 21 points at one time, but managed to come all the way back and secure a 38-35 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a rushing touchdown, the Bulldogs went into halftime with a 21-14 lead. The Wildcats took the lead for good with a field goal in the third quarter.
Meridian's most effective player was
J-mar Smith. The sophomore quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. A member of the Class of 2015 Top 100 Watch List, Smith has now scored 12 touchdowns on the season.
Brandon came in giving up 16.4 points per game this season. BHS struggled against MHS's offense, which entered the game scoring 29.4 points per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Wildcats came away with a 28-3 victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Meridian, which was coming off a 31-28 defeat at the hands of Oak Grove in its previous game.
Meridian (6-2) will play a 6A Region 3 game against Petal next week, while Brandon (6-2) will take on Oak Grove also in a 6A Region 3 game.
