The John Carroll Catholic Rams will venture away from home to square off against the Moore Haven Terriers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Moore Haven will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: John Carroll Catholic extended their winning streak to nine on Wednesday. The Rams never let Sebastian River get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory.
Makayla Ortiz made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, John Carroll Catholic let Briley Orton and Isabella Ramirez run wild. Orton went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Ramirez went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles Ramirez has posted over her last ten contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria O'Brien, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
John Carroll Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Moore Haven gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Clewiston 21-3. The game was the first time the Terriers have beaten the Tigers on their field since February 28, 2020.
Preslynn Baker and Brooklyn Sergent were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Baker pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sergent pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. At the plate, Baker went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Sergent went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Moore Haven got a massive performance out of JoEllen Erskin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Neska Blissett was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
John Carroll Catholic's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Moore Haven, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Both John Carroll Catholic and Moore Haven just can't seem to miss. The Rams have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Moore Haven struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
John Carroll Catholic beat Moore Haven 5-0 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
