High school football in Kentucky kicks off Sept. 11. In preparation
for openers around the Bluegrass State, we size up the contenders
with a look at the state's top 25 teams across all six classifications.
Trinity, the defending 6A champions, begin the season as the team to beat. The Shamrocks are favorites to capture their eighth state title since 2010.
Covington Catholic, reigning 5A champions, start the season at No. 2 in the state after a dominate three-year stretch that includes a 44-1 record dating back to the 2017 season with a pair of state titles and a runner-up finish.
Frederick Douglass begins the season ranked No. 3 in the state, as the Broncos will look to avenge their 14-7 Class 5A state championship game loss.
