2010 notes: When Garrett Gilbert graduated and headed to UT after the '08 season, people wondered how Lake Travis would respond. A title and 16 wins later, the question was resoundingly answered. The new issue, of course, is how the Cavs will fare with their third head coach in four years. But though Carter is making his head-coaching debut, he's no newcomer. He's been the DC under former coach Chad Morris since 2000. The defense, however, usually plays second-fiddle to the offense. That could remain the same this year, what with QB Brewer (4,450 yards, 43 TDs passing; 615 yards, 23 TDs rushing) returning from a phenomenal debut, and top receiving targets like WR Floyd (69-1,316, 12 TDs), junior WR Gilbert (43-552, 6 TDs) and all-district WR Gillette also back. Brewer, a Tech commit, will have his blindside well-covered by OT Doyle, a UT pledge. Back to the defense: LB Williams (176 tackles, 5 FF, 2 INTs), Carter said, "reads well and makes big plays," while FS Lagasse (102 tackles, 2 INTs), "makes tackles and creates turnovers." The DL will be in great shape with three starters back: second-team all-district picks in DEs Marable and Paulsen and all-state DT Roberts.
