The top two are locked in, but with California's first experiment with the Open Division slowly winding to a close, there will be plenty of movement in the Xcellent 25 next week.

Head-to-head matchups often wind up being the deciding factor, which, for example, is why No. 15 St. Mary's of Stockton is ahead of No. 16 Central Catholic — the two played in the Nike TOC in December, and St. Mary's decided this ranking on the court with a 73-64 victory.

MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Girls Basketball Rankings Presented by the Army National Guard

*1. (1) Riverdale (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) 35-0
Riverdale knocked off No. 25 Science Hill in the Tennessee finals, all but clinching the No. 1 ranking in the nation. And though four seniors graduate, including two top scorers, the word is that more talent is on the way.

*2. (2) Duncanville (Texas) 42-0
Duncanville played one U.S. team from outside Texas, Overton of Tennessee, and won by 34 at Duncanville. No. 25 Science Hill, which lost to No. 1 Riverdale Saturday, played Overton on a neutral court and won by 33.

3. (3) Windward (Los Angeles) 31-0
After disposing of surprisingly tough La Jolla Country Day Tuesday, Windward gets the Southern California dream matchup with No. 12 Mater Dei Saturday night — and the winner moves on to the state Open Division championship March 23.

4. (4) St. John's (Washington, D.C.) 33-1
Tori Oliver had 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Cadets came back in the fourth quarter to beat No. 13 Archbishop Spalding and concluded their season with the Bishop Walsh Invitational championship.

5. (9) Fairmont (Kettering, Ohio) 25-1
Fairmont won the game that really counted against rival No. 24 Centerville, and now needs to win one more (against Notre Dame Academy, which is on an 18-game win streak) to get to the Ohio finals, most likely against unbeaten (and No. 10) Twinsburg.
