The inaugural MaxPreps Girls' Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard stopped in Cape Coral, Florida to honor the Lady Bulldogs of Ida S. Baker High School. Under the leadership of head coach Dave Trepkowski, the girls' soccer team finished ranked No. 14 in the entire country with an outstanding record of 26-2 and capped off the season with a Florida Class 4A State Championship.
On Thursday, April 5th around 12:30pm, the students at Ida S. Baker High poured into the gym and waited anxiously for the trophy presentation. This was a perfect setting for the community to come out in full force and display its school spirit by honoring their beloved girl's soccer team. Jason Alpert, the MaxPreps representative was first to take the microphone and started the trophy presentation by stating that this prestigious honor is awarded to only 6 schools across the country that are top ranked and state champions. He then proceeded to recognize Ida S. Baker High School's girl's soccer team for their amazing season and on-field achievements, including being ranked No. 14 in the nation out of 15,000 teams. The crowd erupted in applause to show their appreciation for their school receiving this prestigious honor. Jason then handed the microphone over to Sergeant First Class Michael Ponton of the Florida Army National Guard. After saying a few words about the team's dedication, teamwork and perseverance not only on the field but off, Sergeant Ponton awarded Coach Trepkowski and his players with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy or the coveted "Minuteman" trophy, which symbolizes the Lady Bulldogs hard work, commitment and excellence. Sergeant Ponton also awarded the team with the nationally ranked championship banner to be hung in the gym rafters to serve as a reminder about their amazing season. Coach Trepkowski was quick to share these symbols of greatness to his players who then raised their new "prizes" above their heads triggering the crowd to once again erupt in applause.
