The sixth annual MaxPreps Girls Basketball Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard visited Raleigh, N.C., on April 11 to honor the home of 4A state championship
Millbrook (Raleigh, N.C.) girls basketball team.
The Wildcats completed a perfect 33-0 season, one in which they were recognized as the No. 38 team in the nation according to the
MaxPreps Freeman Rankings, and won their second-consecutive state title.
School let out a few minutes early Thursday afternoon with an announcement for students to go to the gym for a special presentation for their championship girls basketball team. The students, teachers, parents and three media outlets were on hand for the special program.
Scott McInnes, the athletic director, welcomed everyone and introduced Dean Craig of MaxPreps, who shared the process of how MaxPreps ranks teams nationwide and honors only 10 out of a total of 20,000 high school girls teams. He reminded the audience of the Wildcats' unblemished 33-0 record, and their 43-game winning streak that is still ongoing.
He also let them know they finished their fine season ranked No. 38 in the nation. Dean then introduced Sgt. Matthew Davis of the North Carolina Army National Guard, who shared how the great qualities of the National Guard were demonstrated by this dedicated and hard-working team. He presented the Minuteman Trophy to head coach Chris East, who immediately shared the trophy with his team, which had gathered with its coach to celebrate the moment. The Wildcats were also presented with the Tour of Champions banner and posed for pictures and conducted interviews for a number of media representatives who were present.
This celebration was a fitting acknowledgment of the great accomplishments of the Wildcats girls team. Many of the parents and family members took individual pictures with the trophy and the banner for their own remembrances. The administration, coaching staff, parents and students were very excited to be part of honoring their two-time state champion and nationally ranked team, and were very appreciative of MaxPreps and the Army National Guard.
