This week's postseason excitement didn't throw the rankings into complete disarray, but it did reorder the standings a decent amount. That and more in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
West Point got a 35 - 0 win over Olive Branch last week, and a key reason for the win was junior Brandon Harris. Harris ran for 233 yards and also punched in two touchdowns. That performance landed Harris among the top power-ranked players for the week.
A
It was a battle of top-notch squads when Brandon (6th in the power rankings) took on Oak Grove (7th) last week. Brandon came up short against Oak Grove, falling 21 - 10. Brandon unfortunately couldn't repeat the imposing 34-point effort it came up with in its previous game.
Can't Stop Won't Stop
Taylorsville managed to bank 104 more yards than its opponent Bay Springs last week, and going the extra distance paid off. Taylorsville didn't have too many spare points, but it still walked away with a 15 - 8 win. One star in particular for it was senior Keyon Bass, who rushed for 161 yards and one touchdown. With 15 consecutive wins, Taylorsville boasts the longest winning streak of any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Horn Lake (1st in the power rankings) and Oak Grove (7th). The teams have their eyes fixed on the championship after last-week playoff conquests. Horn Lake and Oak Grove can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
