On Jan. 8, MaxPreps traveled to Jersey City to honor the
St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.) football team on a phenomenal season and national ranking. As part of the 10th annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, Saint Peter's Prep High School held a special ceremony to honor the football team as it was ranked No. 15 in the nation out of more than 16,000 high school varsity football teams. The team ended the season with an impressive 11-1 record and its fourth state championship, defeating Paramus Catholic, 34-18.
The Saint Peter's Prep activities director opened the ceremony highlighting the team's notable accomplishments. The team was then called up to the front as the crowd gave a standing ovation. Staff Sergeant Melissa Moreno of the New Jersey National Guard then gave her congratulations to the team on its tremendous achievements. After her speech, SSG Moreno presented the head coach, Rich Hansen, with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy.
The crowd broke out in cheers and applause as coach Hansen accepted the prestigious trophy. He then gave his thanks to the players for their hard work and dedication. He also thanked the students, teachers and parents for their continued support of the team. After the ceremony concluded, SSG Moreno handed out commemorative Tour of Champions shirts to the players. The players posed for pictures and the captains gave interviews to local news outlets, including News 12 New Jersey, that were in attendance.
Congratulations to the Saint Peter's Prep Marauders on their fourth state title and No. 15 national ranking. We hope see them on the Tour of Champions next year.
