Video: MaxPreps Cup standings for fallThe smallest state in the union has the No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Cup standings.
The points have been tabulated and La Salle Academy (Providence, R.I.), with five state championships, is the leader in the MaxPreps Cup after the completion of the fall sports season. La Salle Academy won titles in boys and girls soccer, boys and girls cross country and girls tennis to accumulate 434 points.
The MaxPreps Cup is determined by ranking all schools that win a state
championship or finish second at the state (or section level if there is
no state competition) finals.
Points are also weighted, giving
more points to states that have a high number of schools as well as more
points to schools that compete in larger enrollment divisions. Sports
are also weighted differently with football and basketball, among
others, receiving more points than sports like golf and tennis.
Teams are also given points for being ranked in the Xcellent 25 football and volleyball rankings, the MaxPreps soccer computer rankings and the Dye Stat national cross country rankings.
La Salle Academy has a 16-point lead over No. 2 Jesuit (Portland, Ore.), which won state titles in girls soccer, girls volleyball and football. Jesuit's 418 points edge out Fayetteville (Ark.) and Summit (Bend, Ore.), which are both tied for third with 412 points.
St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) rounds out the top five with 404 points.
