Derby (Kan.) football coach Brandon Clark told the
derbyinformer.com that his team broke a record on Friday. Not just a school record. Not only a high school record.
A football record.
"That's the longest play ever in football," he said after his team's 39-7 opening round Class 6A playoff win over East on Friday. "I think we just broke the record."
They can thank or blame
Darreon Jackson for that. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior took a punt at his own 14, fooled no one with his first move, but then put on a dozen or so more dazzling and determined dances before scooting 86 yards (officially) for the touchdown.
It will no doubt go down as one of the Plays of the Month for November and possibly the year.
"That play probably took 20 seconds and we had players blocking for 20 seconds," Clark said. "My motto was that if you can block for 17.1 seconds you're going to score a touchdown."
