Less than nine months removed from playing his final NFL game, Philip Rivers made his high school football coaching debut Thursday night in Alabama. The former Chargers and Colts signal caller led
St. Michael Catholic (Fairhope) to a 49-0 win over McIntosh.
The Cardinals led 42-0 at halftime to tally just the sixth win in program history. St. Michael Catholic opened in 2016 and has had just three varsity football seasons prior to this fall, going a combined 5-25.
Rivers was named the coach-in-waiting at St. Michael Catholic in May 2020 before playing his final season with Indianapolis.
Rivers threw for 63,440 yards (fifth all-time) during his NFL career, 421 touchdowns (also fifth) and played in 244 games. He was named to the Pro Bowl eight times.
