One of Texas basketball’s largest gatherings of top teams and players begins Thursday at the McDonald’s Texas Invitational in and around Pasadena.
The event will play host to 48 boys and 32 girls teams and run through Saturday at the following locations; Phillips Field House (Pasadena), Pasadena Memorial High School, San Jacinto College (Pasadena), Sam Rayburn High School (Pasadena), South Houston High School (Pasadena), Dobie High School (Houston), Beverly Hills School (Houston), Pearland High School and Dawson High School (Pearland).
Among the top attractions on the boys’ side are state-ranked powers Duncanville, Bellaire, Alief Elsik and defending 5A champion DeSoto. Duncanville’s Perry Jones is regarded as one of the top 10 seniors in the nation and is headed to Baylor.
The girls’ side is equally compelling with Cy-Fair and Mansfield Summit leading the way. Cy-Fair’s Chiney Ogwumike is a blue-chip recruit headed to Stanford. Mansfield Summit went 34-4 a year ago en route to a state title.
Both McDonald’s Texas Invitational champs from 2008 are back to make a repeat run in San Antonio Madison (boys) and College Park (girls).
