Bush was president. That streak ended Friday night when the Jaguars snapped a 312-game losing skid dating back to 2005.
Carroll Academy pulled out a 29-27 double overtime win over Immaculate Conception (Memphis, Tenn.) to snap a streak that started before some of the players on this year's team had started kindergarten.
Head coach Randy Hatch has been a part of the program since 1998 and knows the significance.
"It was a big win, I'll say that," Hatch said. "The team was in shock and thought we actually tied. Like there was no way we won. This is a brand new team. Some of these girls have never even played varsity basketball before or organized basketball for that matter."
Kaitlyn Evans scored 22 for the Jaguars, including a 3-pointer to send the game into the first overtime.
There are only nine girls on the Jaguars roster, and seven of them had never even played at the high school level prior to this season. Three of the five starters were in the school for less than a month before Friday's game.
The Jaguars look to make it two straight with a home game Tuesday against University School of Jackson (Tenn.)
