Video: Corona del Sol, AZ - Andrus Peat
See highlights of the first-round draft pick when he was a prepIn the next few days NFL dreams will be realized as the draft unfolds in Chicago. A handful of Arizona high school products will be selected in those seven rounds and others will find their way to a training camp as undrafted free agents.
It doesn't matter how one gets a chance as long as they still have a training camp to go to at the end of the summer.
Getting drafted is obviously the easier route, as 38 high school products have found out since 2006.
Here is a look at what has transpired for Arizona products over the previous 10 drafts. After these fun facts, check out the table listing every Arizona draftee since 2006 and their alma maters.
* The most selected in one year? The 2008 draft had eight individuals taken, with Corona del Sol offensive lineman Mike Pollak, who was picked by the Colts at 59th overall in the second round, going the highest.
* There have been five first-round picks: Prince Amukamara (Apollo, Nebraska, New York Giants, 2011, No. 19), Cameron Jordan (Chandler, Saints, 2011, No. 24), Dion Jordan (Chandler, Dolphins, Oregon, 2014, No. 3), Taylor Lewan (Chaparral, Titans, Michigan, 2014, No. 11) and Andrus Peat (Corona del Sol, Saints, Stanford, 2015, No. 13).
* There have been several schools with multiple players selected: Chandler 5, Chaparral 2, Corona del Sol 2, Desert Vista 2 and Highland 2. The Wolves' five picks were: The Jordan brothers, Marc Anthony (Ravens, 7th round, 2013), Markus Wheaton (Steelers, 3rd round, 2013) and Brett Hundley (Packers, 5th round, 2015).
* Position breakdown: Defensive lineman 7, linebacker 6, offensive lineman 6, wide receiver 6, defensive back 5, quarterback 3, running back 3, tight end 1, punter 1.
* The colleges that produced at least three draftees from Arizona: Arizona State 6, Arizona 3, Nebraska 3 and USC 3.
* In 2010, Tim Toone (Peoria, Weber State) was taken with the last pick of the draft by the Lions. As such Toone, a wide receiver, was treated to a celebration weekend as Mr. Irrelevant. He went to camp or signed with the practice squad with five different teams but never recorded a reception before calling it a career in 2013.
* The average draft position for an Arizona product over the last 10 years: 138th overall
* Geographically, the East Valley has produced the most with 19 players, while the West Valley has eight, Phoenix seven, Tucson three and Southeastern Arizona 1.
