LAKE WORTH- One defensive stop followed by one devastating drive by Lake Worth and sophomore quarterback Evan Moore was enough for the Trojans to overcome their nemesis, Park Vista, in a 29-28 come back win at GL Homes Stadium.
With the score tied at 14-14 at halftime the Cobras (6-4) appeared ready to pull away in the second half, bolting to a 28-14 lead on the strength of a 56-yard run by quarterback Billy Perez and a 46-yard run by Tre Mason who dominated the ground game, piling up 255-yards and scoring two touchdowns on 18 carries.
The Trojans (6-4) looked listless for most of the second half, but came to life when it counted. Moore, who completed 17-of-29 passes showed just how relentless he could be by coming out gunning from the game’s early minutes of the fourth quarter to connect with wide receiver Bernard Davis to decrease the 14-point deficit to seven.
The Cobras, however, got off to an ominous start when their first two drives, both of which looked promising, ended in a punt leaving the door open for the Trojans.
After an onside kicked recovered by Lake Worth’s Alex Hook, Moore would showcase another one of his talents. That he could pound the ball. He would lead his team down the field with 50-yards rushing and scored the game’s tying touchdown with 20 seconds left.
The Trojans head coach Errick Lowe made a risky decision to go for the two-point conversion, but at the end it was all smiles when Moore hooked up with Admasen Felix in the back of the end zone to steal the victory.
Lake Worth sent a clear message Friday night to close out their season and used Park Vista as the medium for that message.
This was not the type of season Park Vista had hoped to have but they look forward to making improvements and come back with vengeance next season.
