Shane Starrett, who wasn't named as the starter until 15 minutes prior to the game, made 35 saves as No. 3 Catholic Memorial skated to a 1-1 tie with No. 1 Malden Catholic on Saturday at Boston University's Walter Brown Arena.

Newton North (Newtonville) handed the Braintree girls their first loss of the season following 12 straight victories in a 49-40 win Friday night in Bay State Carey play. For Newton North, the win avenged an overtime loss to Braintree during the second week of the season.

Sarah Higgins of
Pentucket Regional (West Newbury) (10-1) had 14 points, seven steals and six assists in the Sachems' 58-28 win against Wilmington.

Heather Cain recorded a triple-double for
Gloucester, notching 23 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists as the Fishermen (9-4) downed Somerville, 64-40. Juniors
Hannah Cain and
Audrey Knowlton added 16 points each for Gloucester.
* St. Clement's player
Christy Novenbre, a 5-foot-6 senior forward, outdid her previous career high of 41 points in a game by scoring 43 in a 66-55 win against Cathedral.

Sophie Bikofsky and
Kendall Burton each scored their 1,000th career point within 30 seconds of each other in Newton South's 82-33 rout of Concord-Carlisle.

Kara Charette of Fairhaven surpassed the 1,000 point total for her career in the Blue Devils' 62-32 South Coast Conference win over Apponequet.
* Trinity Catholic senior forward
Taina Malary hauled in 30 rebounds against Lowell Catholic and another 22 against Pope John. She is five boards shy of 1,100 for her career.

Cohasset boys improved to 11-1 as

Shane Haggerty (10 points) and
Robbie Maloney (12 rebounds) led the Skippers to an 89-66 win against East Bridgewater.

Alex Morsey of Bishop Fenwick scored 42 points and contributed five assists as the Crusaders beat Archbishop Williams in overtime, 83-79.

Brandon Castro had 19 points, 11 steals, and 10 assists in Arlington's 78-58 win over Weston.

Ryan Turbide of Leominster scored a program-record 45 points and became the first player at his school to surpass 1,000 points for his career, but Leominster fell to
Kyle McDermott (18 points) and North Middlesex, 75-66.
* Senior guard
John Henault hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 35 points to lead St. Bernard's (10-2) to an 84-56 win against Northbridge.
* Junior point guard
Christian Horton had 24 points, six rebounds and five assists as Quabbin (9-3) beat Shepherd Hill, 63-59.

Northampton (13-1) gained the No. 1 spot in the weekly
MassLive.com western Massachusetts media poll as junior
Jarrod Neumann scored 25 points in a 74-67 win against Longmeadow. Senior
Jake Laga scored 15 points for Northampton, which overtook Westfield in the poll.

Lance Hill of Minnechaug has scored 25 points or more in five consecutive games - including three 30-plus games - and averages 25.3 points per game for the season, 5.5 rebounds per game and 3.3 steals for coach Mike Orzech's Falcons.

Chris Bush of Taconic had 32 points against Holyoke and 21 points versus Sabis.
