In its seventh year honoring girls volleyball, the 12th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, made a stop on Jan. 31 to
Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.). The MaxPreps Travel Team honored the Dorman High School Cavaliers (Roebuck, SC) girls volleyball team with a trophy presentation that took place during halftime of the boys varsity basketball game.
Parents and members of the student body were thrilled to see the presentation by the South Carolina Army National Guard, represented by Sergeant Daniel Nix. Coach Paula Kirkland and the team were honored to receive the Army National Guard national ranking trophy and nationally ranked rafter banner. The Cavaliers finished the season ranked No. 13 in the nation among the nearly 20,000 volleyball teams in the MaxPreps rankings.
Dorman (46-2), whose only losses came at the hands of No. 1 Archbishop Mitty and No. 2 Mater Dei, overwhelmed Wando of Mt. Pleasant, 3-0, on Nov. 12 to capture the South Carolina 5A title, the first year of the class. The 46 victories easily eclipsed their school best 37-5 record during the 2005 season. The Cavaliers have been in the championship game 14 times and have emerged victorious a dozen times, the last title coming back in 2009.
Coach Paula Kirkland and the coaching staff talked about how special this season has been, and how much it meant to receive the honor from the Army National Guard. They were extremely proud of the team for this accomplishment and will work hard this upcoming season to receive the award again next year!

It was a very exciting year and some of their players have been recognized with awards. Lily Dempsey (Senior) has committed to attend USC Upstate. All State, All Region Recognition winner Claudia Casey (Senior) has committed to attend Spartanburg Methodist College. All Region Recognition winner Thayer Hall (Junior) has committed to attend Florida State.
The players all talked about how motivating this event was for the next season and for their future!
