MaxPreps 2012 All-Sac-Joaquin Section Football Team

With the 2012 season in the books, MaxPreps honors this season's top players in the California Sac-Joaquin Section with the All-Section Football Team.

Performance during the 2012 season, stats provided to MaxPreps, as well as local postseason honors determined the selections.

Offensive Player of the Year
Jake Browning, QB, Folsom, 6-1, 180, So.
Browning started the season with a national record-tying 10 touchdown passes and passing for 699 yards to beat Woodcreek (Roseville). Browning connected on 391 of 605 passes for 63 touchdowns and 16 interceptions and was named to the MaxPreps Sophomore All-American Team.

Defensive Player of the Year
Zack Claiborne, DL, Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills), 6-1, 195, Sr.
According to Joe Davidson of the Sacramento Bee, Claiborne set an all-time Sacramento-area record with 25.5 sacks for a 12-2 team. That led the state this season.

Junior Player of the Year
Feaumoengalu (Ngalu) Tapa, DL, Burbank (Sacramento), 6-3, 275, Jr.
Watch out for Tapa for years to come. He was second in the section with 23.5 sacks. Tapa was the Metro League Defensive MVP.

Sophomore Player of the Year
Matt Jimison, Vista del Lago (Folsom), 6-2, 185, So.
The Offensive MVP of the Sierra Valley League threw for 2,592 yards and 37 touchdowns. The future is bright in the city of Folsom.

Coaches of the Year
Large School - Ernie Cooper, Granite Bay
D1 CIF State Bowl champions.

Medium School - Trent Merzon, Oakdale
NorCal Regional D-II champions.

Small school - Roger Canepa, Central Catholic (Modesto)
D-IV CIF State Bowl champions.

FIRST TEAM OFFENSE

Ian Davis, WR, Nevada Union (Grass Valley), 6-3, 175, Sr.
Davis led the section with 1,305 receiving yards. He had 77 receptions and over 118 yards per game. He also caught 11 touchdowns.

MaxPreps Sac-Joaquin Section Receiving Leaders

Troy Knox, WR, Folsom, 5-8, 160, Jr.
Caught a section-best 104 passes for 1,249 yards and 15 touchdowns for a Bulldogs team that went 14-1 and won the D-II Section title. His 1,249 yards were second overall in the section.
First Team Sacramento Bee All-Metro

Richard Lopez, WR, Downey (Modesto), 6-0, 160, Sr. 
Lopez led the section with 18 receiving touchdowns. In six games this season he had two or more TDs. The senior had 1,184 total receiving yards. Lopez was named Modesto Metro's Outstanding Offensive Player.

Johnny Mundt, TE, Central Catholic (Modesto), 6-5, 235, Sr.
The Oregon commit did it all for the D-IV CIF State Bowl champions: blocking, pulling in 33 receptions for 625 yards and eight touchdowns, and he also had 15.5 sacks on the season on defense. Was named Western League's Most Valuable Player.

Aaron Cochran, OL, Buhach Colony (Atwater), 6-8, 340, Sr.
The national recruit was a huge piece in the Thunder's offense which racked up 4,170 yards on the ground. Cochran has been offered by Oklahoma, Nebraska, and California to name a few. He was named Central California's Lineman of the Year.

Josh Wormley, OL, Folsom, 6-1, 260, Sr.
Wormley was a big reason Folsom passed for 5,248 yards and ran for 1,991 in 2012. He was named to the Sacramento Bee All-Metro team.

Alan Gonzalez, OL, Escalon, 6-3, 275, Sr.
Gonzalez led an Escalon line that paved the way to 53 touchdowns on the ground.

Daren Echeveria, OL, Antelope, 6-4, 270, Sr.
Echeveria was first-team All-Metro by the Sacramento Bee after Antelope won the Capital League title. The senior was named Capital's Lineman of the Year.

Sam Woods, OL, Rocklin, 5-11, 265, Sr.
Woods was named Lineman of the Year in a loaded Sierra Foothill League. He was also named to the Sacramento Bee All-Metro team.

Aaron Zwahlen, QB, Downey (Modesto), 6-3, 195, Sr.
The Hawaii commit passed for 3,852 yards and 49 touchdowns, both numbers second in the section to Folsom's Jake Browning.

Brandon Monroe, RB, Del Oro (Loomis), 6-1, 190, Sr.
The Sacramento Bee Player of the Year rushed for 1,545 yards and 17 touchdowns despite missing three games with a knee strain. Monroe carried the Eagles on his back as they made a late postseason run. He was also named the Sierra Foothill League's Offensive Player of the Year.

Robert Frazier, RB, Elk Grove, 5-7. 170, Sr.
Frazier rushed for 2,120 yards and 22 touchdowns for the 12-2 Thundering Herd. Frazier also had five interceptions on defense. He was named to the Sacramento Bee All-Metro team.

D'Juan Bellaire, RB, Center (Antelope), 5-6, 165, Sr.
Bellaire and teammate QB Tyrel Anderson may have been the most explosive 1-2 punch in the section. Bellaire rushed for 7.5 yards per carry. He had 2,214 yards total and 30 total touchdowns. He was Pioneer Valley's Offensive MVP.

Thomas Sperbeck, ATH, Jesuit (Carmichael), 6-0, 175, Sr.
Sperbeck did it all for Jesuit. He led the team in passing - 1049 yards, rushing - 932, tackles - 69, and scoring - 11. He was named to the Sacramento Bee All-Metro team.

Kenny Smart, K, Central Catholic (Modesto), 6-1, 185, Sr.
Smart was named the Western League's Most Outstanding Specialty Player after making 105-out-of-106 PAT attempts. He also had 61 touchbacks on the season.
