Video: Xcellent 25 High School Football Rankings
See how far East (Utah) moved up the rankings after season-opening victory.
Only four teams from the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings presented by the Army National Guard played this past weekend and all four were victorious.
Florida had its preseason classics, too. The games don't count toward the record for these teams but starters take the vast majority of reps – giving them more of a regular-season feel than exhibition.
IMG Academ (Bradenton),
St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) and
American Heritage (Plantation) all looked impressive. The Ascenders beat
Carol City (Miami) 41-22. While the losing Chiefs still remain in the Top 25, they drop a bit in the rankings.
In two shutout victories to open the season, Hawaii powerhouse
Kahuku has allowed just 54 total yards defensively.
East (Salt Lake City) beat a very good Timpview team 42-10.
Chandler (Ariz.) rolled to a 42-14 win over Red Mountain behind a strong game from
Jacob Conover. The 2017 MaxPreps Preseason Junior All-American completed 12-of-15 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns.
Warren Central (Indianapolis) nearly blew a 27-0 first-half lead, but held on for a 27-24 win over Center Grove. 2017 MaxPreps Preseason Junior All-American
David Bell had an impressive season opener hauling in eight receptions for 181 yards and two scores.
