In one of the biggest games of the 2017 season, No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) beat then-No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) 35-21 behind a strong performance from 5-star quarterback J.T. Daniels. The 2016 MaxPreps Sophomore of the Year threw for 315 yards and two scores. Receivers Nikko Remigio and Bru McCoy combined for 12 receptions, 258 yards receiving and two touchdowns and Shakobe Harper eclipsed the century mark on the ground and found the end zone twice.

The scary thing is Mater Dei did all that without one of the top wide receivers in the country – Amon-Ra St. Brown.

The Monarch defense played well, too. Darion Green-Warren had two interceptions, including a pick-six. Nathan Logoleo had a couple sacks and 4-star linebacker Solomon Tuliaupupu made plays all over the field.

IMG Academy (Brandenton, Fla.) beat Centennial (Corona, Calif.) for the second consecutive year behind strong games from 2018 Nebraska commit Brendan Radley-Hiles and 2019 Alabama commit Trey Sanders.

Radley-Hiles, named the MVP of the Honor Bowl, had two interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. Sanders had touchdown runs of 65 and 75 yards as he helped lead the Ascenders to their 30th consecutive win.

Centennial showed fight after losing starting quarterback Tanner McKee early in the first quarter with an ankle injury. McKee's backup got hurt later in the second quarter and third-string quarterback Arturo Herrera kept the Huskies in the game before a couple of late touchdowns by Sanders made the final 40-20.
