Two football players listed in the 2011 MaxPreps Top 100 have made recent college commitments.
CBS College Sports and MaxPreps recruiting analyst Tom Lemming ranks Bubba Starling as the No. 4 quarterback and No. 21 overall player. The 6-foot-5, 200-pounder from Gardner-Edgerton (Gardner, Kan.) has chosen the University of Nebraska, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
As a junior, Starling passed for 1,433 yards and 18 touchdowns with just six interceptions. What makes him especially dangerous, however, is his speed – he runs 40 yards in 4.5 seconds – which enabled him to account for 1,381 yards (an 11.1 average) and 19 touchdowns.
* Lemming’s No. 72-ranked player, Josh Turner, has committed to the University of Texas, according to The Oklahoman. The 6-0, 175-pound wide receiver/cornerback from Millwood (Oklahoma City, Okla.) had 648 yards and six touchdown receptions as a junior. In addition, he made 83 tackles and six interceptions.
* The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that another highly-regarded quarterback, Jerrard Randall, has made a commitment to the University of Oregon. As a junior, he passed for 1,800 yards and rushed for 1,074 yards while helping Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) reach Florida’s Class 2A state semifinals.
