Bishop Moore High School (Orlando) ended Berkeley Prep's (Tampa) three-year reign as champions of Florida's Class 4A with a convincing 3-0 sweep on Saturday night.
As a result, the Hornets remained No. 1 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Volleyball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard
It is Bishop Moore's first state title since winning back-to-back championships in 1999 and 2000, when current head coach Tanya Jarvis played for the Hornets. The title match win also avenged Hornet losses to Berkeley prep at the 2011 and 2010 state tournaments.
In winning all of its 2012 matches, Bishop Moore outscored its opponents in 87 of its 98 games. Seven of those game defeats occurred in the Hornets' first five matches.

Also earning state championships on Saturday night were Venice (Florida) and Barnstable (Hyannis, Mass.). Venice defeated Thomas Aquinas to win Florida's 7A title and Barnstable beat Newton North (Newtonville) to win the D1 title in Massachusetts.
