Pearland made this week's biggest move in the MaxPreps Texas Top 25, climbing six spots from No. 10 to No. 4.
With many of the highly-ranked squads enjoying an open date, Pearland (5-0) made the most of its opportunity with a 62-0 rout of Sam Rayburn (Pasadena).
The Oilers, 2010 Class 5A Division I state champions, have outscored five opponents by a combined score of 265-9.
Among the top matchups this week, No. 1 DeSoto and its potent offense will face the ball-hawking defense of No. 19 Mansfield Timberview (Arlington). Both are 5-0.
On Saturday, No. 23 Madison (5-1) should get a test from undefeated Reagan (5-0) in a battle of San Antonio teams.

Even if
Desmon White doesn't measure up in size to prototype college quarterbacks, the 5-8, 145-pound senior is putting up attention-grabbing statistics — throwing for 1,365 yards and 12 touchdowns and rushing for 585 yards and eight more scores. He is yet to throw an interception. Coming off an open date, the Eagles face a very good defense on Friday when they host 5-0 Mansfield Timberview (Arlington) with the District 7-5A lead on the line.
2. Allen 5-0 (2)
Junior quarterback
Kyler Murray, the son of former Texas A&M quarterback Kevin Murray, has thrown for 1,228 yards and 11 touchdowns while rushing for 330 yards and seven scores. The defending Class 5A Division I state champions comes off an open date to face 4-1 Plano East in a District 10-5A opener on Friday.
3. Katy 5-0 (3)
Two touchdowns and two field goals — that is all the scoring the traditionally-stingy Tigers defense has allowed in five games. The Tigers compliment their strong defense with a sound ground attack.
Rodney Anderson has 728 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Kyle Porter is not far behind with 561 yards and eight scores. Coming off an open date, the Tigers face 1-4 Katy Taylor (Katy) on Friday.
4. Pearland 5-0 (10)
JaColbie Butler raced for first-quarter touchdown runs of 70, 12, 69 and 3 yards in the Oilers' 62-0 rout of 1-4 Sam Rayburn (Pasadena). Butler finished with 178 yards on five carries. The Pearland defense allowed 37 total yards and five first downs in recording its third shutout of the season. Up next is a road game Friday at 1-4 Alvin.
5. Westfield (Houston) 5-0 (4)
The passing of senior
William Dedon (685 yards, eight touchdowns) has helped the Mustangs stretch their regular season winning streak to 16 games, dating back to 2011.
Akpaffiong Tisdale leads Westfield in rushing with 436 yards. Coming off an open date, the Mustangs attempt to improve to 4-0 in District 13-5A when they meet 2-4 Spring on Friday.
6. North Shore (Houston) 5-0 (5)
It looks like another powerhouse is taking shape for coach David Aymond and North Shore's streak of 19 straight playoff appearances does not appear in jeopardy. The Mustangs have reached the 50-point threshold three times. Defensively, they are working on a two-game shutout streak. Coming off an open date, North Shore travels up the coast to face 4-2 Port Arthur Memorial on Friday.
7. Lamar (Houston) 4-0 (6)
The Redskins have two shutouts already and haven't allowed more than a touchdown in any of their four games. Senior linebacker
Kyran Mitchell is the leading tackler with 18 solos and 31 assists. After an open date, Lamar faces 4-1 Westside (Houston) on Friday.
8. Coppell 3-1 (7)
Defensive end
Solomon Thomas (6-3, 256) remains one of the most sought-after seniors in the country with offers from most of the college powerhouse programs.
Gavin McDaniel, the younger brother of Notre Dame running back Cam McDaniel, has rushed for 374 yards and seven touchdowns. Coming off an open date, the Cowboys host 3-2 Hebron in a District 5-5A opener on Friday.
9. Carroll (Southlake) 4-1 (8)

The Dragons stormed back from an early 6-3 deficit with 74 unanswered points in a 77-6 rout of 1-4 Timber Creek (Keller). Senior
A.J. Ezzard rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns.
Ryan Agnew threw for two scores and ran for two more. The Dragons have scored 59 points or more three times this season. Next is a road trip to 2-3 Richland (North Richland Hills).
10. Steele (Cibolo) 4-1 (9)
The Knights have responded from a one-point season-opening loss to Madison (San Antonio) with four wins in a row. At the midpoint of the regular season, Texas Tech commit
Justin Stockton has rushed for 838 yards and 14 touchdowns. After an open date, the Knights begin District 28-5A action by hosting 2-3 King (Corpus Christi) on Friday.
11. Skyline (Dallas) 4-1 (11)
Junior quarterback
Sederian Copeland used the big play to torch 1-4 Lake Highlands (Dallas) 49-21. Three of Copeland's five touchdown throws came on pass plays covering 60 yards or more.
Savon Rollinson caught a pair of scores. Up next is a Friday road trip to 3-2 Pearce (Richardson) in a matchup of two 2-0 teams in District 9-5A.
12. Smithson Valley (Spring Branch) 5-0 (12)
The narrowest winning margin for the Rangers so far is 19 points. Their most impressive win to date, a 47-20 thumping of 5-1 Madison (San Antonio). Quarterback
Garrett Smith, a 6-1 senior, has thrown for 969 yards and 12 touchdowns and rushed for 491 yards and six scores. Following an open date, the Rangers begin District 25-5A play by hosting 3-2 San Marcos on Friday.
13. Cedar Hill 3-2 (13)
The all-junior passing combination of
Justin McMillan to
Damarkus Lodge should excite Longhorn fans not only for the remainder of this season, but for 2014, too. The duo has hooked up 24 times for 480 yards and seven touchdowns. The Longhorns come off an open date with a District 7-5A home game against 2-3 South Grand Prairie on Friday.
14. Martin (Arlington) 4-1 (14)
Leading only 13-3 at intermission, the Warriors scored 34 second-half points in a 47-3 taming of 0-5 Weatherford.
Nic Smith rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns while fellow sophomore
Eric Walker threw for 191 yards and two scores. The Martin defense limited the Kangaroos to 85 yards. Martin entertains 3-2 Paschal (Fort Worth) on Friday.
15. Manvel 4-1 (15)
Sophomore
Deriq King threw for three touchdowns, all to
Gary Haynes, in a 37-13 thumping of 1-4 Alvin. Manvel did all its scoring in the first half.
Jacoby Perro and
D'Vaughn Pennamon had scoring runs for the Mavericks. Up next is a Friday road trip to 2-3 Dobie (Pasadena).
16. Bowie (Arlington) 4-1 (16)
The Vols displayed high-powered offensive balance, rushing for 347 yards and throwing for 327 in a 69-15 thumping of 3-2 Paschal (Fort Worth).
Trenton Shumate led the Vols on the ground with 146 yards and
Keaton Perry, playing his second game since returning from an ACL tear, threw for 184 yards and two scores. Bowie hosts 0-5 North Crowley (Crowley) on Friday.
17. Aledo 5-0 (17)
Kicker
Chance Nevarez snapped the state record for career consecutive extra points in the Bearcats 77-16 clawing of 3-2 South Hills (Fort Worth). The five-year-old record of 114 fell after Aledo's eighth touchdown. Nevarez kicked three more in the game to extend his ongoing streak to 118. Aledo scored on all 11 possessions in the rout. On Friday Aledo has a road date with 1-4 Wyatt (Fort Worth).
18. Hendrickson (Pflugerville) 6-0 (18)
Junior running back
Tazh Maloy scored on runs of 99 and 85 yards, helping the Hawks fly past 4-2 Stony Point (Round Rock) 54-24. Maloy finished with 194 rushing yards and Oklahoma commit
Samaje Perine added 143 yards on 19 carries. As a team, the Hawks rushed for 486 yards. On Friday, the Hawks will host 3-3 Round Rock Westwood (Austin).
19. Mansfield Timberview (Arlington) 5-0 (19)
With a secondary containing LSU commit
Edward Paris and Stanford commit
Brandon Simmons, it isn't surprising that the Timberview defense is among the top three statistically in the Dallas Class 5A area. The Wolves are allowing an average of 145 yards and 8.2 points per game. Coming off an open date, that defense will be tested on the road Friday by high-flying DeSoto (5-0).
20. Horn (Mesquite) 6-0 (20)

Destri White threw for 308 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-32 win over 3-3 Rockwall and former Horn coach Rodney Webb. After Rockwall had drawn to within 35-32 with eight minutes remaining, White scored on a 6-yard run to pad the lead and
Justyn Oliphant broke a 34-yard touchdown run in the final minute for insurance.
Del'Michael High led Horn receivers with nine catches for 171 yards and three touchdowns. On Friday, the Jags host 3-3 Mesquite.
21. Fort Bend Bush (Richmond) 5-0 (NR)
Quarterback
Ronald Monroe, a verbal pledge to Texas State, had 345 yards of offense and a hand in six touchdowns as the Broncos rolled to a 42-26 victory over 0-4 rival Fort Bend Travis (Richmond). Monroe threw for 234 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 111 yards and two scores. On Saturday, the Broncos will face 1-4 Fort Bend Austin (Sugar Land).
22. Cedar Park 5-1 (22)
The Timberwolves piled up a 37-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 51-34 victory over 2-3 Marble Falls.
Nate Grimm threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns and added 86 rushing yards and a score.
David Moritz caught two touchdown throws. After an open date, Cedar Park faces a road game against 5-1 Rouse (Leander) on Oct. 18.
23. Madison (San Antonio) 5-1 (23)
Quarterback
Cody Ennis threw for 223 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-0 blanking of 3-3 Roosevelt (San Antonio).
JaMichael Brown was the target of two of Ennis' touchdown throws.
Dominique Daniels led the Mavericks' ground attack with 78 yards on 13 carries. Up next is 5-0 Reagan (San Antonio) on Saturday.
24. Judson (Converse) 4-1 (24)
The Rockets have a very good road win to their credit over Lake Travis and a lopsided home loss to Steele (Cibolo). The passing arm of
RayJohn Austin-Ramsey has accounted for 1,196 yards and 11 touchdowns. Senior wide receiver
Andre Wilson has 26 catches for 513 yards and eight scores. Following an open date, the Rockets will begin District 25-5A play by hosting 0-5 Wagner (San Antonio) on Friday.
25. Lake Travis (Austin) 4-1 (25)
Varshaun Nixon, a Texas A&M commit, rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns, helping the Cavaliers deal 5-1 Bowie (Austin) a 43-0 defeat. Nixon also caught a touchdown pass. The Lake Travis defense limited Bowie to 128 yards and six first downs. On Thursday the Cavs will visit 2-4 Akins (Austin).
