With Nebraska's prep baseball teams preparing to begin the second half of the season, here at MaxPreps we were combing through our baseball statistics database so we could display what we believe to be the Top 10 single-game pitching performances so far this spring in the Cornhusker State.
And we were not disappointed. To date, two Nebraska pitchers have thrown partial game no-hitters while striking out at least 10 batters. Three other pitchers tossed one hitters through at least five innings while dishing out 10 Ks or better.
Seven pitchers threw two-hitters under the same circumstances while a trio of hurlers tossed three hitters.
It all begins in Blair where Shea Wendt struck out 13 of the 23 batters he faced and posted a no-hitter through 5.2 innings in a 16-6 win over Omaha North April 5. Wendt did walk four batters while throwing 98 pitches.
Sitting second is Brendon Runge of Fairbury who struck out 11 of 21 batters in a 3-2 loss to Omaha Bryan in late March. Runge was also no hitting the Bears and threw 90 pitches for Jesse Bauer's club.
Omaha Northwest's Aiden Cambell is third this week after striking out 10 batters in five innings of action. Cambell gave up a hit and walked three batters while delivering 73 pitches in an 18-0 triumph over Omaha Buena Vista March 31.
Bryce Andersen of Kearney and Elkhorn North's Ryan Harrahill round out our Top 5 this week. Andersen threw a complete game one-hitter after allowing a couple of walks and striking out 10 batters in a win over Waverly. Harrahill, meanwhile, threw five innings and allowed just one hit while whiffing 10 Beatrice batters in a 2-1 loss.
Classes A, B and C are all represented in this week's Top 10. In order to be considered, a pitcher had to fan at least 10 batters and throw five innings or more in an outing.
