A bus carrying a Missouri high school football team was struck by five gunshots after its game last Friday night,
according to the Kansas City Star.
The bus was carrying students from
Southwest Early College (Kansas City, Mo.) traveling back from a game against
Afrikan Centered (Kansas City, Mo.). The field on which the game was played is shared by several Kansas City high schools, and was a homecoming game for Southwest, which won, 44-14.
According to the report, the bus passed a group of 20 to 30 people near the field when as many as eight shots rang out, five of which struck the bus.
Southwest head coach Tim Johnson then shouted for the bus driver to "get out of here and go!"
When reached by MaxPreps, Johnson said he was not allowed to comment, per district policy.
The bus suffered broken windows and a damaged ceiling, but no students or coaches were struck.
Two other incidents of gunfire near high school football games also occurred last Friday.
Gunshots were confirmed
outside of a game in Memphis as well as
a game in Portland, Ore.
