One of the greatest high school wrestlers of all-time continues to defy all odds.
Kyle Snyder went 139-0 in three years at
Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) before becoming the youngest American in 20 years to win a FILA Junior World title in August of 2013.
On Sunday, the now-Ohio State sophomore won the 73-kilogram title at the freestyle U.S. Olympic Wresting Trials to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
The 20-year-old beat 2012 Olympic champion Jake Varner two out of three matches.
Snyder quit football after his sophomore season at Good Counsel to focus on wrestling. He was a 5-foot-11, 225-pound nose guard for the 12-0 Falcons in 2011, a team that finished fifth in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
Judging from the results, it was obviously a good decision.
