Connor Stalions, the former University of Michigan assistant coach accused by the NCAA of a scouting scheme last year, took over as head coach for
Mumford (Detroit, Mich.) this week after head coach William McMichael suffered a stroke.
Stalions, who had been a volunteer defensive coordinator, stepped into the head coaching role for the Mustangs' 60-0 loss on Friday to
Hamady (Flint).
McMichael said he entered the hospital last Aug. 30, a day after
a season-opening loss to Thurston, and stayed for three days. The first-year coach
told CBS Sports he suffered what he called "a mild stroke."
"Connor is leading the team now," McMichael texted CBS Sports, saying he was unsure of when he'd return to the program.
Mumford is 4-24 since the beginning of the 2022 season.
Stalions, a former Marine captain, was embroiled in an advance scouting scheme of Michigan opponents last season. The Ann Arbor schools received its official notice of allegations in the case 10 days ago, according to CBS Sports.
He told CBS Sports he ran practice and meetings for the 30 players who had dressed out.
"It's a matter of keeping them bought in," he said.
