Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.) scored 28 points in the second quarter to secure a big 49-7 victory over
Riverview (Sarasota, Fla.) on Saturday.
The Hurricanes scored on a touchdown pass by Cord Sandberg to Brodrick Yancy, a Sandberg touchdown pass to Marquel Hines, a touchdown pass by Sandberg to Ja Juan Pollock and a defensive touchdown in the quarter.
Manatee was up 42-7 at the half after taking the lead on a Sandberg touchdown run in the first quarter.
MHS expanded its lead to 42 points entering the fourth quarter. The Bradenton school's lone score in the quarter came on a Walters touchdown run.
Sandberg stood out for the Hurricanes in the win. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. A member of the Top Pro-Style Quarterbacks, Sandberg has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
The Rams' lone touchdown came on a 12-yard pass in the second quarter.
Manatee also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 48-6.
Riverview (0-2) goes up against Venice in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Manatee (2-0) locks horns with Central also in a non-conference game.
