See this amazing goal from California. With the girls soccer season in full swing we have decided to scroll through the MaxPreps stat database and display some of this spring's dominant individual performances. And Omaha Concordia forward Sam Powell appears to have a foot up on the competition.
The sophomore not only made our Top 10 once this week. But twice. And only a technicality kept her out of it for a third time. Powell, who has helped Concordia to a 4-2 record through last weekend's competition, buried the ball into the back of the net six times in an 11-1 win over Seward last weekend, for a third-best 12 points.
Her four goals and two assists in a 7-1 win over Omaha Bryan last month tied her for the fifth-best scoring mark of the season with Lincoln Southwest's Hannah Davis and Alexis Oden of Beatrice. Powell also tapped the ball for four goals and eight points in an 8-0 blanking of Omaha Benson, which would have tied her for 10th.
However, with eight athletes tied for the final spot, the emphasis was placed on the number of goals an athlete was responsible for. Therefore Powell's four-goal performance took a backseat to the three goal, two assist performances of Kendall Bonam of Omaha Central, Omaha Bryan's Karina Garza, Josie Knapp of Lincoln East and Beatrice's Kennedy Vater.
Omaha Roncalli Catholic's Alexandra Mausbach was nearly unstoppable in a 10-0 shutout of Omaha Northwest in mid-March, netting the junior this season's top performance with six goals and three assists for 15 points. Miranda Swift of Papillion-LaVista scored six times and was credited with an assist for 13 points in a 9-1 triumph over Lincoln Northeast March 19.
