With a lot of big-time football programs in Texas, strength of schedule for teams can be elevated. MaxPreps takes a look at the top 10 strength of schedule teams out of the 1,205 programs in the state.
Top 10 Texas strength of schedule teams
Cedar Hill, 50.4 strength of scheduleThe Longhorns are 4-2 this season, but their two losses are to two of the top three teams nationally in No. 1-ranked Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) 44-14 and No. 3 DeSoto 33-18. Cedar Hill is ranked No. 41 in the country and No. 8 in Texas.
Rockwall, 49.7Don't let the Yellowjackets' 1-5 record fool you, four of their five losses are by seven points or less. In mid-September, Rockwall handed Tyler its only defeat of the season to date. The team is ranked No. 132 in the state with its brutal schedule.
Westlake (Austin), 45.8The Chaparrals are off to a 5-2 start after beating a good Katy squad 32-29 in the season opener. Last weekend, Westlake fell 49-7 to Lake Travis, which is a bubble team in the Xcellent 25. The Chaparrals are No. 20 in Texas and No. 133 nationally.
Katy, 45.7After a loss to Westlake in the first game of the year, the Tigers have won four of their last five contests, including three in a row. Katy's only loss on the year came to Texas' No. 3-rated team, The Woodlands, which is undefeated.
Steele (Cibolo), 45.5The Knights are 5-1 out of the gate after some impressive early-season victories. Ranked No. 28 nationally, Steele's only loss was at the hands of power Lake Travis, 59-56 in overtime, in Week 2.
Byron Nelson (Trophy Club), 45.5Another 1-5 team cracks the top 10 in toughest schedules. The Bobcats dropped their first five games of the season, but got in the win column last Friday night by beating previously one-loss Trinity 21-20 in overtime.
Byron Nelson football may be 1-5, but it has one of the top 10 toughest strength of schedules in Texas.

Lake Travis (Austin), 44.5Impressive wins over Steele (Cibolo) and Westlake have catapulted the Cavaliers to the No. 2-ranked team in Texas. At 5-1, Lake Travis has four winnable games left in the regular season.
Carroll (Southlake), 43.6After a season-opening loss to Union (Tulsa), the Dragons have won all five of their in-state games. Carroll is rated No. 10 in the state and is averaging 39.8 points per game during its winning streak.
Plano West (Plano), 43.4The Wolves are 1-5 and have blowout losses at Allen and Tyler, which make their schedule difficult. The team's lone win of the season is at McKinney 38-21 on Sept. 22.
Odessa, 43.2It's been an uncharacteristic season for the Broncos at 0-6 with all their losses by 20 points or more. Odessa, which boasts the 10th hardest schedule in the state, it is coming off a 55-0 loss at undefeated San Angelo Central.
