Top 25 high school football rankings

St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) continues to rise in the Xcellent 25 Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.

One week after knocking off highly-touted Glenville (Cleveland) in convincing fashion, the Eagles handed Solon its first loss, racing to a 35-0 lead and winning 42-14.

St. Edward's impressive resume makes it a threat to rise to No. 1 in the rankings. The Eagles have mowed down an impressive lineup of Buckeye State teams, as well as powers from Michigan and Pennsylvania, by an average of four touchdowns per game.

The nation's top two teams, Trinity (Euless, Texas) and South Panola (Batesville, Miss.), each received a scare over the weekend. Trinity outlasted a tough Allen squad, while South Panola was tested by Olive Branch.

Re-entering the rankings this week is Stony Point (Round Rock, Texas), which blasted Klein Collins 55-21. The Tigers are playing their best football of the season and are a threat in the 5A-I playoff bracket.

Making its debut in the Xcellent 25 is Serra (Gardena, Calif.), which whipped Beverly Hills 48-7. The immensely-talented Cavaliers are 11-0 and have the speed and athleticism to compete with any team in California.

Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard

1. (1) Trinity (Euless, Texas), 12-0
Brandon Carter picked up 17 yards to convert on third-and-15 and gain a key first down in the fourth quarter, allowing Trinity to preserve a 37-35 victory over Allen.

2. (2) South Panola (Batesville, Miss.), 13-0
A Kendrick Market interception of Olive Branch quarterback Todd Mays with less than three minutes to play preserved South Panola's lead. The Tigers received a late touchdown from Qyendairs Griffin to escape with a 24-13 win.

3. (3) St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 11-0
The Raiders continued their quest for a 5A state title with a 59-0 blanking of Coconut Creek. Frederick Coppet rushed for four touchdowns in the win.

4. (7) St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio), 13-0
St. Edward throttled previously-unbeaten Solon 42-14. The Eagles received three touchdowns from Terrell Bates.

5. (4) Katy (Katy, Texas), 12-0
Katy rolled up over 600 yards of total offense to dominate Cy-Fair 55-20. Donovan Young and Adam Taylor combined for five touchdowns for the Tigers.

6. (5) Centennial (Corona, Calif.), 11-0
Four touchdown passes from Michael Eubank allowed Centennial to cruise to an easy 56-14 victory over Yucaipa.

7. (6) Armwood (Seffner, Fla.), 11-0
Once again, Armwood's defense was dominant as the Hawks beat Sickles 35-3. Armwood has outscored opponents 502 to 57 this season.

8. (11) Grant (Sacramento, Calif.), 12-0
The Pacers turned in a dominant performance, blanking River City 62-0. Kaiiron Richards had five touchdowns to lead Grant.

9. (9) Mission Viejo (Calif.), 11-0
In the opening round of the Pac-5 playoffs, Mission Viejo routed Wilson 62-30 behind three touchdown catches from Bryan Keller

10. (8) Hoover (Hoover, Ala.), 13-0
Jaylon Denson's three touchdown receptions helped Hoover fend off Clay-Chalkville 35-27.

11. (13) Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), 10-0
Freshman sensation Jabrill Peppers had two defensive touchdowns as Don Bosco Prep blasted St. Peter's Prep 37-0.

12. (10) Phoebus (Hampton, Va.), 12-0
Tyree Lee continued his fine season, rushing for 297 yards and three scores as Phoebus pounded Great Bridge 35-6.

13. (12) West Monroe (West Monroe, La.), 12-0
Despite 241 penalty yards, West Monroe edged Barbe 34-29. Paul Turner's two touchdowns led the way.

14. (14) De La Salle (Concord, Calif.), 10-0
The Spartans enjoyed a bye and next will take on Heritage in the North Coast Section playoffs.

15. (15) Wheaton-Warrenville South (Wheaton, Ill.), 13-0
Reilly O'Toole was dominant, throwing for 380 yards and three touchdowns as the Tigers pounded Belleville East 41-7 to advance to the finals of the 7A playoffs.

16. (16) Bingham (South Jordan, Utah), 13-0
Bingham completed a perfect season by downing Fremont 30-7 in the 5A title game. Stefan Cantwell three touchdowns for the Miners.

17. (17) Dwyer (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), 10-1
Quarterback Jacoby Brissett continues to impress, scoring three touchdowns as Dwyer beat Stranahan 45-3.

18. (18) Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.), 13-0
Justin Worley threw four touchdown passes, giving him a state-record 55 on the season, as Northwestern beat Ashley Ridge 49-35.

19. (19) Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.), 11-0
A healthy Mike Blakely had 120 total yards and two touchdowns as Manatee won easily over Northeast 35-13.

20. (20) Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.), 13-0
Marquise Williams notched three total touchdowns despite suffering an ankle injury as Mallard Creek downed Ardrey Kell 49-23.

21. (21) Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.), 11-0
Demetrius Hart rushed for 118 yards and three scores as Dr. Phillips overwhelmed Olympia 52-3.

22. (23) Servite (Anaheim, Calif.), 11-0
Running back Malik Felton scored twice to power Servite to a 41-14 victory over Jordan.

23. (24) Mullen (Denver, Colo.), 12-0
Mullen took another step toward a 5A crown with its 35-7 victory over Chaparral. Adonis Ameen-Moore rushed for 136 yards and two scores for the Mustangs.

24. (NR) Stony Point (Round Rock, Texas), 12-0
The Tigers re-enter the rankings after pounding Klein Collins 55-21. Stony Point's potent offense gained 329 yards on the ground and another 196 through the air.

25. (NR) Serra (Gardena, Calif.), 11-0
Serra looked impressive in its playoff opener, stomping Beverly Hills 48-7. Shaquille Richard rushed 12 times for 161 yards and three touchdowns.
