The 6-foot-4, 175-pound University of Arkansas recruit amassed 7,748 points to set a national high school decathlon record with junior (heavier) implements. The previous record was 7,599 points by Curtis Beach of Albuquerque Academy (Albuquerque, N.M.) in 2009.
However, Nixon had to settle for second place to University of Arkansas freshman Kevin Lazas, who finished with 8,016 points.
In addition, Nixon holds the national decathlon record of 8,035 points with high school implements. The previous record of 7,909 points also had been held by Beach.
* Two other high school athletes provided all-time No. 3 efforts.
Boone (Orlando, Fla.) rising senior Marvin Bracy won the 100-meter dash in a brilliant wind-aided 10.05 seconds.
St. Mary's (Berkeley, Calif.) rising senior Trinity Wilson won the 100-meter hurdles in an outstanding 13.15 seconds.
