You might not recognize the power rankings this week after a busy last week rearranged the teams a whole lot. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Can't Touch This
Burke got a 43 - 26 win over Gretna last week, and a key reason for the win was senior James Burks. Burks ran for 313 yards and also punched in five touchdowns. That performance made Burks one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
A
The battle between Pierce (ranked 1st in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Lakeview (ranked 32nd) turned out to be a somewhat underwhelming competition. Pierce blew past Lakeview 44 - 22. Lakeview had come in flaunting an aggressive defense allowing an average of only 13 points per game, but that obviously didn't scare off Pierce.
No Stoppin 'Em
The Bellevue West offense has been a force to be reckoned with this season, and last week was no different. The final score between it and Norfolk was a 62 - 27 blowout in Bellevue West's favor. Bellevue West gave the Norfolk offensive line some real trouble with six sacks (and will no doubt be looking to keep the pressure on Omaha South this Friday). The combined 89 points was the most of any game featuring a power-ranked team.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Millard West (10th in the power rankings) and Grand Island (8th). Both teams have their heads held high after dominating their previous opponents. Grand Island and Millard West both have plenty of landslide victories under their belts (Grand Island with five and Millard West with three), but only one can come away triumphant this week. We'll find out who that is soon.
