Two of the more prolific passers in high school football history saw their careers come to an end despite impressive efforts that landed them in this week's MaxPreps National Football Stat Stars.
Parker Carmichael of Triway (Wooster, Ohio) threw for 394 yards in his final game. He completed a whopping 53 of 76 passes, but just one touchdown in a 13-6 loss to Kenton. The game was surprisingly low-scoring considering the two teams are among the most pass-happy squads in Ohio.
Carmichael finished the season with 376 completions in 517 attempts for 4,532 yards and 55 touchdowns. For his career, Carmichael completed 1,035 passes on 1,579 attempts for 12,005 yards and 126 touchdowns. He becomes the third passer in Ohio history to throw for over 12,000 yards in a career. His touchdown total is in a tie for fourth-best all-time.
Meanwhile Tucker Israel of Lake Nona saw his four-year, record-breaking career come to an end in a 48-38 loss to Lakeland. Israel completed 44 of 67 passes for 543 yards and five touchdowns.
The five touchdowns gives Israel 56 for the season, breaking the state record of 55 held by Quentin Williams of Jefferson (Tampa). Israel had previously been incorrectly credited with breaking the state record of 46 touchdown passes, the mark established by Tim Tebow of Nease (Ponta Vedra, Fla.).
Israel finished with 317 completions on 470 attempts for 4,446 yards. The 317 completions is also a state record, according to the
Orlando Sentinel. For his career, Israel completed 970 of 1,522 passes for 14,112 yards and 162 touchdowns. Those totals are all Florida career state records. His 14,112 yards ranks eighth in national history.
Israel's top receiver, Deondre Farrior, had 18 catches for 205 yards in the loss. He finishes the season with 116 receptions, which is a new state record, according to Buddy Collings of the Sentinel.
In New Jersey, Kyle Presti of Kinnelon (N.J.) set a state record with nine touchdown passes in a 58-42 win over Sussex County Tech. Presti completed 24 of 33 passes for 503 yards. The previous state record was eight touchdowns, according to
NJ.com.
