Holy Trinity's (Hicksville, N.Y.) fourth quarter rally came up a little short as the visiting Titans fell 59-56 to
Archbishop Molloy (Queens, N.Y.) in the season opener. Senior Chris Garcia led the Stanners with 14 points. Holy Trinity was led by junior Mike Callaghan, who had 15 points to lead all scorers.
The Stanners appeared to have the game in hand when they took as 13-point lead with 2:30 left on the clock after Garcia hit two free throws. But, back came the Titans. Callaghan and senior Tyler Seidman hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut the lead to 59-56 with eight seconds remaining, but Molloy held on for the win. Garcia hit six consecutive free-throws down the stretch.
The Titans, who return all five starters from a team that advanced to league championship game in 2009-10, ran out to a nice lead in the opening half, and held a 28-20 advantage with just over three minutes remaining in the half. However, Molloy scored the final five points of the half to cut the Holy Trinity lead to 28-25.
The Stanners began to take the game over early in the third quarter with a 14-4 run which gave them a 39-32 lead. Molloy held a 44-39 as the teams took the court for the final quarter.
Holy Trinity returns to action on December 4th when they play Harborfields .
