Whitmer (Toledo, Ohio) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as
Tre Sterritt ran for a touchdown with 11:00 left, bringing the team to victory over
Mentor (Ohio) 62-34.
The Panthers led 20-13 at halftime, but the Cardinals recaptured the lead on a touchdown with 9:00 remaining in the third.
Whitmer's most effective player was
Nick Holley. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns.
Mitch Trubisky played well for Mentor. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to 16 on the year.
The defeat comes as a step back for Mentor, which notched a 57-56 victory over St. Ignatius in its previous outing.
MHS (12-2) will play a playoff game against Whitmer next week. The Panthers enter the contest having posted a 13-0.
