High school football is in an era defined by offense but Pennridge is emerging as a championship contender with a nasty defense this season. The Rams climbed 11 spots to No. 16 in this week's Pennsylvania Top 25 computer rankings.
Pennridge (4-0) shutout Central Bucks South 32-0 on Friday night, the third consecutive week it has blanked its opponent. That victory was preceded by a 30-0 win over Neshaminy and a 42-0 thrashing of Central Bucks East. Things figure to get tougher Friday against 3-1 Abington.
While No. 1 St. Joseph's Prep was off, No. 2 Pine-Richland (6-0) continued to roll, crushing Kiski Area 58-14. The Rams have scored 50 or more in three straight outings ahead of Friday's contest against South Fayette.
No. 3 Peters Township also improved to 6-0 with a 23-7 win over West Allegheny on Friday. Another top-ranked team doing it with defense, the Indians have allowed a total of 17 points in their last three games.
