Video: Court Report - Top sophomores in high school hoops
Southern California has representation in this video of the best 10th graders in the nationUpsets finally occurred in some of the other divisions aside from the Southern Section Open Division, and that enabled four new teams to make their entrances. And there was a slight upset in the Open Division that gives us a new No. 1 team.
Many of the teams in this week's rankings are sitting around waiting on the regional brackets, which come out Sunday. Until then, enjoy all the section finals.

The Knights are in the top spot for the first time this season after they blasted Orange Lutheran 69-47 in an Open Division semifinal. They will face Etiwanda Saturday for the section title.
2. (4) Etiwanda, 23-7Section and Division: Southern Open
Rankings: 6
state, 22 national
The Eagles leapfrog Fairfax to this spot because a win over the No. 1 team is a big deal. Yes, seven losses don't look good overall, but nobody wants to face this team going forward after its 52-49 win over Mater Dei. Well, maybe except Bishop Montgomery.
3. (1) Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 26-3Section and Division: Southern Open
Rankings: 5 state, 18 national, 22 Xcellent 25
The Monarchs lost to Etiwanda on their home floor, 52-49. They will await the regional playoffs.
4. (3) Fairfax (Los Angeles), 29-2Section and Division: Los Angeles City Open
Rankings: 8 state, 38 national
The Lions felled El Camino Real in a City Section semifinal, 67-52. They will face league foe Westchester in the final on Saturday, a team they lost to. An earlier loss to Mater Dei moves them down to fourth.
5. (5) Orange Lutheran, 24-5Section and Division: Southern Open
Rankings: 9
state, 39 national
The Lancers had a nice run in the Open Division, but they fell 69-47 to Bishop Montgomery.

The Jackrabbits are still alive in the consolation bracket. They beat St. John Bosco 67-50 and will face Redondo Union on Friday for the consolation championship.

Rankings: 10 state, 45 national
The Sea Hawks reached the consolation title game by eliminating Damien by an 82-77 score. They face Long Beach Poly on Friday.

The Spartans lost two of their three games in the Open Division. They fell 82-77 to Redondo Union.

The Falcons won't be able to move up until they register some victories in the regional playoffs. But they are doing their part in the SDS right now, winning in the first two rounds: 68-38 over Vista and 64-51 over Army-Navy. They will tussle with sixth-seeded St. Augustine in the final on Saturday.
14. (14) Foothills Christian (El Cajon), 23-7 (2 forfeit losses)Section and Division: San Diego II

The Knights continued to roll in the SDS Division II bracket, eliminating Bishop's 74-52 and Kearny 84-44. Mira Mesa will be the opponent in Saturday's section final.

Rankings: 35
state, 247 national
The Raiders move up because they're proving that they deserve it. They trounced Diamond Ranch 76-56 in the semifinal and will face Gahr (Cerritos) in Saturday's 3AA final.

The Braves lost 67-50 to Long Beach Poly in the Open Division consolation bracket.

The Wolfpack are in the 1AA final Saturday against Village Christian. They eliminated Los Alamitos 96-68 in the semifinals, and this season they have a win over Etiwanda, albeit early.

Rankings: 29 state, 204 national
The Vikings are back in the rankings after reaching the 4A final. They beat Buckley 69-51 to reach Friday's tussle with Maranatha. Earlier this season they beat Village Christian.
23. (NR) St. Augustine (San Diego), 24-6Section and Division: San Diego Open
Rankings: 40 state, 290 national
The Saints took down La Costa Canyon in the SDS Open Division playoffs and they're in Saturday's final against Torrey Pines. Not bad for a 6 seed. They beat San Marcos and LCC to reach the final.
24. (25) Cantwell-Sacred Heart (Montebello), 15-13
Section and Division: Southern Open
Rankings: 48 state, 358 national
The
Cardinals did not play.
25. (NR) Maranatha (Pasadena), 19-8Section and Division: Southern 4A
Rankings: 47 state, 354 national
The Minutemen will be facing Campbell Hall in the CIFSS 4A final on Friday. Village Christian deserved consideration here, but Maranatha owns two wins over Village Christian.
