Zakary Grigg was his usual excellent self, rushing for 205 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, while also throwing for 74 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024. Brian Lopez also helped out as he racked up 130 rushing yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: American Falls was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 338 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Another reason for the win was American Falls' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Fred Murillo with two. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven.
Meanwhile, Bear Lake hadn't done well against South Fremont recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bears walked away with a 28-20 win over the Cougars.
A big part of Bear Lake's victory came down to the chemistry between Daxton Perkins and his top target Austin Tafoya. Perkins threw for 261 yards and four TDs on only 18 passes while Tafoya picked up 162 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
American Falls' record now sits at 5-1. As for Bear Lake, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. American Falls has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 174.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Bear Lake, though, as they've been averaging only 40.2 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
American Falls came up short against Bear Lake in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 20-14. Can the Beavers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
