Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Girls Team of the Year Nominees
* Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls) SoccerThe Warriors, who haven’t lost since 2011, ran their unbeaten streak to 91 games en route to winning their fourth-straight D-II state title with a 21-0-1 record.
* Wadsworth BasketballThe Grizzlies won the second state title in program history (the first since 1997) and second over Mason with a 60-51 win in the D-I final. The victory avenged an earlier season loss to the Comets, which was the Grizzlies' lone blemish all year. Wadsworth beat Reynoldsburg 58-48 in the semifinals. In two state tournament games the Grizzlies made 43 of 51 free throws. Wadsworth also finished the season ranked No. 1 in the final AP poll.
* Lakewood (Hebron) SoftballThe Lancers completed a perfect season (29-0) and won the program’s fourth state title (first since 2010) with a 7-4 win over Keystone in the D-II state final. They finished No. 1 in the state coaches poll.
* Mount Notre Dame (Cincinnati) VolleyballThe Cougars, who won a third-straight D-I state title for the second time in program history, became the state’s all-time leader in volleyball titles with nine. Newark Catholic and Cincinnati St. Ursula have eight each.
* Waterford BasketballA year after losing in the D-IV state final, the Wildcats captured the program’s first state title with a 29-27 win over St. Wendelin in the small school state final. The 29 points set a state record (all divisions) for fewest points scored by a state champion. Waterford made 23 of 24 free throws en route to beating Cornerstone Christian 52-42 in the semis. The Wildcats were ranked No. 1 in the final National Guard OGBR JJHuddle State Poll. Waterford, which finished 28-1, was undefeated against Ohio teams.
* Dublin Jerome GolfThe Celtics became the only school in state history to claim five straight golf state titles with another championship in D-I.
* Hawken (Gates Mills) Swimming & DivingThe Hawks won their 18th-straight state championship and 17th-straight in D-II. It was their 26th overall title.
* Troy BowlingThe Trojans won the program’s first state title with a 3-1 win over Beavercreek in the D-I finals at the state tournament. Troy beat North Olmsted and Mentor to reach the finals.
