Bosco Doesn't Miss a Beat

Don Bosco Prep, MaxPreps' top-rated team in New Jersey, took advantage of its week off in the schedule, returning to action with a resounding, 68-0 thumping of Montclair.

Bosco (4-0), regarded by many as the top school in the state in both the private and public sectors, took control of the contest early with a 40-point first quarter explosion. Junior running back/fullback Guy Germinario did all of his damage in the opening quarter as he scored three rushing touchdowns. He also had a busy day on the defense with nine tackles.

"We worked hard in practice all week, and this performance surprised all of us a bit," Germinario said.

The Ironmen increased their lead to 54-0 at halftime, as the starters rested the entire second half. Senior quarterback and Louisville-bound Matt Simms had an efficient and productive afternoon as he completed 13 of 18 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns.

"They are obviously not in our league and I'm not sure who is in theirs," Montclair head coach Ed La said.

Harris, Hill Highlight St. Peter's Victory; Bates Boosts Hoboken

St. Peter's Prep (4-0), ranked No. 2 in the state by MaxPreps, didn't lose any of its luster as they rolled to a 28-7 victory over Hudson County, extending their consecutive win streak over Hudson Valley opponents to 56.

St. Peter's also remained on track for a rematch to defend their crown against Don Bosco Prep in the non-public title.

Senior running back Sharif Harris rushed for 143 yards and scored a touchdown. Junior quarterback Will "The Thrill" Hill had a busy afternoon, as he scored on a one-yard sneak, a 74-yard punt return, and added a 53-yard touchdown pass to Mike Lang.

Hoboken (4-0), the third-ranked team in the Garden State MaxPreps poll, won its 16th-straight with a dominant, 49-6 victory over Newark East Side.

Senior fullback Damien Bates enjoyed the best weekend performance of a running back in the state, as he rushed for 230 yards and scored four touchdowns. His four touchdowns boosted his total to 14 this season.

Hoboken senior linebacker Bernardo Nunez recorded a team-high 12 tackles.

Parsippany Hills Stakes Claim in Morris County

Parsippany Hills, regarded as one of the best teams in Morris County, continues to play soundly on both sides of the ball, posting an impressive 40-0 victory over cross-town rival Parsippany.

Senior quarterback Mike Gerardi connected on 12 of 19 passes for 193 yards and had three touchdowns. His three scoring strikes raised his total to 14 this season along with 987 yards passing.

Wide receiver/defensive back Anthony Rossi caught an eight-yard touchdown pass and scored on a 37-yard punt return. Senior cornerback Tom Tran ran back a 22-yard interception that helped stake the Vikings to a 26-0 halftime lead.

Parsippany Hills' defense bottled up Parsippany most of the afternoon, as they captured the annual Unity Trophy for the seventh-consecutive season.

"We wanted to get back to being a defensive team," Parsippany Hills head coach Dave Albano said. "Our offense gets a lot of press, but around here we're all about defense."

Martinek, Tucker Continue Their Torrid Pace

Hopatcong senior running back Joe Martinek continues his assault on the state's all-time rushing mark as he gained 146 yards on 29 carries and scored two touchdowns in the Chiefs' 21-0 blanking of Sparta.

Martinek needs 134 yards to break Keyport's Kenny Cattouse's all-time mark of 6,720 yards. Hopatcong (4-1) hosts Kittatiny Friday night.

Pope John's Jeremy Tucker kept pace with his counterpart as the senior back rushed for 316 yards on just 13 carries and scored four touchdowns to help keep his team undefeated (5-0) with a 48-12 blowout over Vernon. Tucker lifted his season totals to 1,268 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.
