The 2015 season has its first marquee football event scheduled: the Centennial Classic.
Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) will play host to a huge weekend of football in which it will host Louisiana power
Archbishop Rummel (Metairie, La.) while
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) will take on
St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.), multiple sources confirmed to MaxPreps.
The games will take place on the weekend of Friday, September 25, and be a part of a week-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of Don Bosco Prep and the 75th anniversary of St. John Bosco, brother schools run by the order of the Salesians.
"It's an honor to have our brother school from the West Coast join us [for the celebration]," Don Bosco Prep athletic director Brian McAleer told MaxPreps.
"We're also honored to have St. Peter's Prep and Archbishop Rummel take on the challenge to join us and create a memorable event for members of all the school communities."
Host school Don Bosco Prep will take on Archbishop Rummel, which captured Louisiana state titles in 2012 and 2013.
The second matchup will pit St. John Bosco, perhaps the top program in Southern California over the last three seasons, against St. Peter's Prep, New Jersey's defending non-public Group IV champion.
St. Peter's Prep head coach Rich Hansen is excited for the opportunity.
"It's a high-profile game against a great program, and that's what we've always tried to do," Hansen said. "It's easy to say, hard to achieve. It's also great to be helping [Don] Bosco celebrate its anniversary and contribute to that."
Combined, the programs involved had a record of 41-8 in 2014. All should be in state title contention in 2015.
