East St. John (Reserve) quarterback
Darion Monroe didn't waste any time in deciding upon a college, as he verbally committed to Texas A&M for 2012.
In his first season as a starting quarterback last fall, Monroe combined his passing and running to account for 2,356 yards and 41 touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Monroe is the third ESJ player in three years to choose Texas A&M.
Cornerback Floyd Raven signed with Texas A&M in February after former all-state offensive lineman Patrick Lewis signed in 2009. Lewis has started for the Aggies at right guard the past two seasons.
"I chose Texas A&M because I like the atmosphere … and I know some of the guys who are up there so I won't be going in there blind," Monroe told the Times-Picayune of New Orleans.
Monroe made three visits to the Texas A&M campus, most recently in January for Junior Day. Monroe selected Texas A&M over Tulsa and said he also received recruiting interest from Alabama, LSU, Kansas State, Kansas, Miami, Colorado, Baylor and SMU.
