The high school football season in Delaware came to a close
Saturday with championship games in Divisions I and II. For a second straight season, the Howard Wildcats won a Division II title, this time with a dominating 42-6 win over Archmere.
That victory, coupled with an 8-0 record and excellence throughout the season, makes Howard the 2020 MaxPreps Champion for the state of
Delaware.
According to
TheDialog.org, the Wildcats scored on their first three possessions then relied on a stingy defense to win their third state title since 2015.
Kevin Ignudo led the way on both sides of the ball with three touchdowns and two interceptions, while teammates
Tyair Spencer and
Keshaun Watson each had two touchdowns.
Ignudo, a junior, entered the game with 1,212 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns, and Spencer had 24 catches for 537 yards and 12 touchdowns before Saturday's victory.
Howard outscored opponents 316-51 this season with a 34-13 semifinal win over Red Lion Christian Academy being the closest contest.
In the other championship game, Sussex Central defeated Middletown 28-19 in Division I play.
