After culminating an 18-year NBA career with a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame induction in 2018, Ray Allen was named head coach at
Gulliver Prep (Miami) Thursday night.
The NBA's all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 2,973, Allen spent seven seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, five seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics, five years with the Boston Celtics and two seasons with the Miami Heat. He averaged 18.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest while earning 10 NBA All-Star Game selections and winning a pair of titles.
Allen, 46 years old, takes over a program that finished just 5-16 last season. His son,
Ray Allen III, is entering his junior year with the program.
Allen becomes the latest former NBA player to coach at the the high school level in recent seasons, joining Mike Miller at Houston (Germantown, Tenn.), Brandon Roy at Garfield (Seattle) and Jeff McGinnis at Combine Academy (Lincolnton, N.C.). Penny Hardaway (Memphis East) and Mike Bibby (Shadow Mountain) also recently held head coaching positions before moving on.
Gulliver Prep competes in FHSAA Class 4A and is in search of the program's first state championship. The Raiders return

Amare Sanders in addition to Allen III.
