The Carmel High School gym was packed on Wednesday, January, 18. It was a cold evening in Carmel, Indiana, but the gym was hot! The crowd piled in one by one to watch the Greyhound basketball team and, along with the 7th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, they were there to congratulate the Greyhound football team on their championship season! The memorable season might have come to a close, but the Carmel High School football team continues to catch the eye of onlookers with their #4 national ranking in the nation out of over 16,000 high school football teams!
As half time approached, Greyhound pride became more evident! The crowd and the football team were pumped and ready to receive the prestigious award from Max Prep Tour of Champions and the Army National Guard. Proud parents, coaches, news media, and players stood in anticipation. MaxPreps Tour of Champions spokesperson, Chris Magnuson, addressed the crowd at half court. He recapped the 14-1 winning season, and explained the prominent award presented to the Greyhounds. Only 50 football teams in the United States are awarded the "Minuteman" trophy. The hardware is given to those teams that have shown excellence, perseverance and outstanding dedication. Chris Magnuson then introduced Sergeant First Class Hickman from the Indiana Army National Guard which encouraged players and students to take the lessons learned on the field into their everyday life. Sergeant First Class Hickman than presented the Army National Guard national ranking (Minuteman) trophy as well as an Army National Guard-Max Preps Nationally Ranked championship banner, to be hung and displayed in the gym, to Coach Wright and the Greyhound seniors. The Greyhound football team proudly accepted the award and appreciated the recognition and its prestige.
What a great celebration and honor for Carmel High School and the community of Carmel, Indiana!
